Producer Names: Arabella Scheler, Ashley Pun, Daniel Seo, Jay Dugar, Annie Nguyen
Description: Throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic, the strong and dramatic upsurge in anti-Asian hate crimes alongside discriminatory portrayals of Asian Americans in the media led to a detrimental impact on mental health. In order to unpack the specific roots and its effects in the Asian American community, our podcast discusses the xenophobia and scapegoating that the Asian American community as a whole has experienced throughout these tumultuous circumstances. To do this, we first engaged in discourse over the general mental health implications of xenophobia, before diving into specific case studies of communities, such as the Asian American community in Orange County, CA, and how the pandemic brought collaborative efforts and outreach programs between various Asian American organizations to provide mental health resources.
